Here&#8217;s a summary of what&#8217;s available:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>More Time to File and Pay:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No need to request an additional extension, The IRS automatically extends deadlines for those in disaster areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Current deadline:<\/strong> May 1, 2025 (includes 2023 and 2024 tax returns &amp; payments for most Florida residents).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check IRS.gov for the latest list of disaster areas to see what your county specifically qualifies for.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Financial Assistance May Be Tax-Free:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Qualified disaster relief payments (e.g., for repairs or living expenses) from government agencies are generally excluded from your taxable income.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Disaster Loss Deduction:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Deduct uninsured or unreimbursed damage to your property (home, belongings, etc.) on your tax return.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can claim this deduction on your 2024 return (filed next year) or your 2023 return (filed this year).
